Two months into investigating the prolonged power outage in Male' and Hulhumale' on June 1, police have announced that only preliminary information has been gathered in their investigation.

The power cut of June 1 occurred at 1235 hours in both of the congested and connected parts of Male’ city, and electricity was restored over five hours later, at 1830 hours.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident on the same day.

Police stated on Saturday that preliminary findings and information have been collected, which will guide further investigation. They assured that details of their discoveries will be shared upon completion of the investigation.

Since the initial outage, both Male' and Hulhumale' have experienced further sudden power cuts, including one on this Saturday. The increasing frequency of these outages remains unexplained by the State Electric Company (STELCO).
