Power was fully restored in the Maldivian capital just after noon on Saturday, after a massive outage left the heavily populated capital without electricity for nearly three hours.
The power went out in both Male’ City and Hulhumale’ just before 09:30 am on Saturday.
The State Electric Company (STELCO) attributed the outage to a “technical issue”, the details of which have yet to be disclosed.
It wasn’t until an hour later that power got restored to some parts of Male’ City
An hour later, STELCO announced that it had begun restoring power to some areas in Male’ City, and then Hulhumale’.
Power was restored to Hulhumale’ Phase I at around 10:50 am, and then to Hulhumale’ Phase II and a larger part of Male’ City at around 11:37 am.
STELCO energized and synchronized the Greater Male’ Interconnection Grid, and managed to fully restore to the capital at around 12:02 am.

The utility service apologized for the inconvenience it caused customers, and asked anyone who still hasn’t got power back to call STELCO’s hotline 104.
The latest outage comes two months after a total blackout in the capital that lasted nearly six hours.
The blackout on June 1 prompted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to order a police investigation. However, the findings of this investigation were never publicly disclosed.
