Power went out again in parts of Hulhumale’ Phase II on Wednesday, marking the latest in frequent outages that have been recently affecting the area, as well as the larger Maldivian capital.
A spokesperson from State Electric Company (STELCO) told Sun that the power went out in several parts of Hulhumale’ Phase II at around 11:00 am Tuesday and lasted for around 20 minutes in the morning.
He attributed the outage to an issue with a transformer installed near an office of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) located in Phase II.
“It was isolated and power has been restored to all affected areas,” said the spokesperson.
The power had gone out in parts of Hulhumale’ Phase II just before noon on Tuesday, before it was restored around two hours later.
STELCO attributed the outage to an issue with the transformer used to provide power to the STO Hiyaa, the flats that house employees of State Trading Organization.
A second larger outage occurred at around 11:45 pm Tuesday, one that affected a large area of both Male’ City and Hulhumale’.
Power was restored to the affected areas at around 12:40 am Wednesday.
Back in June, the Maldivian capital was affected by a total blackout that lasted nearly six hours, affecting tens of thousands of people in Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’.
The massive outage prompted a police investigation.
