Three Bangladeshi workers have been arrested with 102 bottles of bootleg liquor in a raid on a makeshift brewery at their work site in Hulhumale’.
In a statement on Saturday, the police said the raid, which took place on Thursday night, led to the arrest of three Bangladeshi nationals. They are:
According to the police, the makeshift brewery was discovered after officers tracked Ahannan’s movements after he was found carrying a cardboard box in Hulhumale’ Phase III. Officers intercepted him as he attempted to walk away after burying the cardboard box in the beach.
The police said Ahannan had used physical violence and attempted to evade arrest.
The police arrested Ahannan and dug up the cardboard box he buried, from which they found 30 500ml bottles containing liquor.
The other two suspects were arrested as they attempted to evade police during a raid on their work site.
During the search of the site’s kitchen, the police found that officers had arrived while they had been brewing liquor.
The police found 72 more 500ml bottles with liquor during the raid.
The police also found paraphernalia used to brew alcohol from the kitchen.
All three suspects were remanded in custody of the police for 10 days when brought before the court on Friday.
The case ins under further investigation by the police.
The raid comes amid a counter-narcotics operation by the police targeting the New Year’s holiday.
