Maldives Police Service states 144 beer cans have been seized from a pickup in Hulhumale’ Phase I on Sunday morning.
According to police, officers patrolling Hulhumalé Phase I this morning attempted to stop a speeding pickup truck using hand signals and by honking. However, the Police said the driver ignored the order and continued to drive erratically through multiple roads.
The Police pursued the vehicle and eventually brought it to a stop. Upon arresting the driver and searching the pickup, officers discovered 144 cans of beer, which were confiscated.
The driver of the pickup has been identified as a 28-year-old Indian national, Fasal Rahmna Matumal.
The driver was arrested on charges of possession and sale of alcohol.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
Substances remain one of the most prominent social issues in the Maldives with a large number of migrants invovled in such cases as well.
