Abdulla Jabir, the incumbent Kaashidhoo MP, has lost re-election.

Preliminary results show Jabir trailing far behind with 44 votes, with the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNF)’s candidate, Mumthazim Adnan the clear winner, with 411 votes.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate, Abdulla Naseer Mohamed, who Jabir lost the MDP ticket to after he was kicked out of the party, received 139 votes.

While Jabir is the current Kaashidhoo MP, he has the record for the most number of disciplinary misconduct cases at the 19th assembly of the parliament as well.

The defeated Kaashidhoo MP first announced the decision to contend through MDP's ticket, but the party decided to rescind its ticket from Jabir after the party investigated his discplinary misconduct cases.

Jabir contested the decision at the court, but the court dismissed the case after which he announced the decision to run for the constituency independently.

Despite Jabir running for Kaashidhoo seat independently, his son, Ahmed Muaz Jabir contended for Mahibadhoo seat through MDP's ticket.

Even with the main opposition party's backing, Muaz, much like his father did not secure a win at this year's parliamentary election, with Mahibadhoo seat defended by his PNC opponent, Ahmed Thoriq.

Preliminary results show ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has secured the parliament's super-majority.
