Incumbent Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem defended his seat in the parliamentary election while his son, Ibrahim Naufal, who contested for Mulah constituency also won.
Both Saleem and Naufal contested the election on ruling PNC’s ticket.
According to ballot boxes counted so far, Saleem has secured 64.54 percent of the votes. His closest competitor, independent candidate Abdulla Wisam secured 34.56 percent of the votes.
Meanwhile, Naufal secured 61.52 percent of the votes from the boxes counted so far. His closest competitor, main opposition MDP’s Moosa Shiyam Abdulla Ali secured 37.74 percent of the votes.
His reelection marks Saleem’s third term.
Naufal’s election marks the first time a father and son will serve in the same parliamentary assembly.
