Two arrested after over MVR 1m in items stolen from Jabir’s house

The police have arrested two people suspected of stealing over MVR 1 million in items from a private residence in Male’ City.

A police spokesperson said the theft was reported from an apartment on the fifth floor of H. Thimaveshi on January 25.

The police arrested a 30-year-old male and a 38-year-old male in connection to the case, and recovered some of the stolen goods.

H. Thimaaveshi is owned by Abdulla Jabir, the incumbent Kaashidhoo MP. However, it is unclear if he currently resides in that house, or if the theft took place in his apartment.

According to police, the 30-year-old was arrested on Friday, and the 38-year-old, the next day.

Both suspects have a criminal record.

Police said they found some of the stolen items from the residence of one of the suspects.

The items stolen from H. Thimaaveshi includes electronics and watches – valued at over MVR 1 million.

At their remand hearing, the Criminal Court remanded the 30-year-old in police custody for 30 days, and the 38-year-old for 15 days.
