Civil suit against MP Jabir withdrawn after loan repayment

The civil suit that former Male’ Mayor Sarangu Adam Manik filed against Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir over failure to repay a loan has been withdrawn after Jabir settled the payment.

Jabir had taken a USD 1 million (MVR 15 million) loan from Adam Manik.

Adam Manik filed a civil suit against Jabir in October of this year as he was noncompliant with payments for the loan as agreed. The lawsuit was filed against both Jabir and International Travel Consultant, a company in which Jabir is a shareholder.

Adam Manik filed to withdraw the suit after Jabir settled the loan in full on December 21st. Subsequently, the Civil Court concluded the case, citing it was withdrawn by the claimant.

As per the Maldivian law, if a parliamentarian has a proven debt and is noncompliant with the payment, he or she will lose the seat.
