Police seize large quantities of alcohol in Male', arrest five

Maldives Police Service on Sunday announced that during an operation, large quantity of alcohol was seized from a speed boat docked near Boduthakurufaau Magu running track and a taxi parked in the same area.

According to the Police, having received information that alcohol was being smuggled and sold illegally in Male’, Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence conducted an operation on December 9.

During the operation four locals aged 24, 25, 22, 38 and a 51-year-old Bangladeshi national was brought under Police custody. From the five, the court remanded one for 15 days, two for 10 days and the remaining two for five days.

Police further revealed that 12 cases of alcohol were found from the speed boat while three boxes were in the taxi.

Drug Enforcement is further investigating this case.
