Police have arrested two individuals with 215 kilos of heroin in a counter-narcotics operation.
Via a tweet, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said that two individuals have been arrested with 215 kilos of heroin in a counter-narcotics operation that had commenced on last Wednesday. The operation is a collaborative effort of the Drug Enforcement Department, Marine Police, Forensics Department, Raa Atoll Police Station and Police Intelligence.

In his tweet, he also thanked Maldives National Defense Force and the Indian Government for their helpful input in the operation.
This is the second successful counter-narcotic operation conducted within this week – the first one also being announced by CP Hameed via a tweet.
On Thursday, CP Hameed tweeted that the Police had seized approximately 100 kilograms of heroin and arrested 10 suspects in a counter-drug trafficking operation. He detailed that 10 locations were searched in this operation in 24-hours.
The 10 individuals arrested in this operation were all males; eight Maldivians and two foreigners. Along with two individuals who were aged 24 – the remaining eight individuals were of the ages 19, 25, 26, 27, 30, 34, 35 and 61.
When they were presented before the court for their remand hearings – four were remanded in custody for 15 days and three were remanded in custody for 10 days. One was remanded in custody for five days.
Police stressed that two who were released by the court are those they suspect to be leaders of the ring. Therefore, they have requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to appeal the court’s decision.
