COVID-19: 45 new cases; 1,208 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 45 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 85,977.      

According to HPA, the 45 new cases include; 14 cases from the greater Male’ region, 27 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and four cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 68 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 84,451.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,208 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

3,449 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,285 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 1 percent.

Maldives has recorded 237 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of present, 393,611 people have received their first dose and 350,739 people have been fully vaccinated.
