A man from Addu City was arrested from the Velana International Airport on Friday, after he arrived from overseas allegedly carrying 250 grams of mephedrone, synthetic stimulant drug also known as ‘meow meow’, hidden inside his boxers.

Ahmed Zahid, 50, from Narugismaage in Maradhoo, Addu City, was arrested on suspicious of smuggling drugs into the country. He was presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing on Saturday.

Ahmed Zahid shares the same address as two people who were arrested from Male’ on Tuesday, in a case involving the suspected use, possession and peddling of narcotics. The two suspects - Ahnaf Ashraf, 27, and Abdul Ghani Abdul Majeed, 56, were arrested with narcotics and over MVR 41,500 in suspected drug money.

However, the police have not said if there’s any link between the two cases.
