Parliament seeks public opinion on tax commissioner nominees

The Parliament has opened the opportunity for the public to weigh in their opinions regarding the President’s nominees for the positions of Commissioner General of Taxation and Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted the list of candidates for the positions – ranked based on his preference – to the Parliament on Monday, October 14.

The nominees for the position of Commissioner General of Taxation are; Fathuhulla Jameel – former Director at Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), and Ismail Nashid – Assistant Commissioner of Maldives Customs Service.

Six candidates have been nominated for the position of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation. They are:

  • Mohamed Siraj Munir, Newlight, Dhadimagu, Fuvahmulah City
  • Asma Shafeeu, Vaijeheyge, H. A. Ihavandhoo
  • Ismail Sajidh, Ma. Villarodhi, Male’ City
  • Ahmed Shareef, Anbugasdhoshuge, N. Manadhoo
  • Ahmed Wafir, Elam, Vilimale’
  • Hamdhi Ageel, H. Rangali 4, Male’ City

The nominations are currently under evaluation by the Economic Affairs Committee of the Parliament.

The opportunity to submit complaints regarding any of the nominees will remain open until October 21. Complaints can be sent via letter or email.
