Govt invites bids to develop resorts near Kelaa, Kaashidhoo

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment on Monday invited bids to develop two resorts in the lagoon of HA. Kelaa, and one in the lagoon of K. Kaashidhoo.

A resort near Kaashidhoo and two near Kelaa were key pledges that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made during his 2023 presidential campaign. On Saturday, he issued a decree amending the jurisdiction of Kelaa and allocating 325.5 hectors from the island’s lagoon to build two resorts.

In an announcement published on the Government Gazette on Monday, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment invited eligible investors, local or foreign, to submit their interest to reclaim two 12.19-hector islands in two plots in the lagoon of Kelaa to develop 200-bed tourist resorts.

Kelaa Plot 1:

  • Total size: 156.2 hectors
  • To reclaim: 12.19 hectors
  • Minimum number of beds: 200
  • Minimum lease acquisition cost (LAC): USD 1,996,740
  • Bid security: USD 25,000

Kelaa Plot 2:

  • Total size: 169.3 hectors
  • To reclaim: 12.19 hectors
  • Minimum number of beds: 200
  • Minimum lease acquisition cost (LAC): USD 2,032,110
  • Bid security: USD 25,000

In a separate announcement, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment invited bids to reclaim a 10-hector island and develop a 100-bed resort in Kaashidhoo lagoon.

Kaashidhoo Plot:

  • Total size: 115.21 hectors
  • To reclaim: 10 hectors
  • Minimum number of beds: 200
  • Minimum lease acquisition cost (LAC): USD 2,250,000
  • Bid security: USD 25,000

Interested investors have until June 5 to submit bids.
