President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed the Maldives' strong support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that it is a concern shared by all Maldivians.

In a message delivered on Friday in commemoration of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the President reaffirmed the Maldives' dedication to the Palestinian struggle for justice and peace.

He highlighted the long-standing injustice faced by Palestinians, who continue to suffer from violence, displacement, and oppression. The President described each day as a reminder of their immense suffering, which strengthens the resolve of the global community to stand against such injustices, which tarnish our collective history.

The President also called on the international community to unite and use its political and economic power to demand an immediate end to the occupation, cease arms sales to Israel, and ensure accountability for war crimes. He stressed the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in providing support for Palestinian refugees for over 75 years, urging all nations to continue supporting its essential work.

Condemning Israel’s actions, the President denounced its violations of international law and human rights, stating that Israel’s impunity is not only an attack on Palestinians but on the international system itself. He reiterated that the international community must protect Palestinian rights and hold Israel accountable.

The President further affirmed that the Maldives believes no moral or legal obligation is greater than the fight to liberate the Palestinian people. In this trajectory, he said every Maldivian sees Palestine’s struggle as their own, thus Maldives stands firm in its commitment to restoring justice, dignity, and freedom for the Palestinian people.

He concluded by expressing his firm belief that a lasting and sustainable solution can only be achieved by establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier in the day, the President also expressed his support for Palestine on his official X account to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
