President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks on Qatar's capital, Doha, describing the actions as a "cowardly act" and a violation of international law.

In a statement posted on X, President Muizzu asserted that the attack constituted an infringement on the sovereignty of an independent nation. He reiterated that "Maldives stands in solidarity with the State of Qatar."

The President further urged the international community to take decisive action against Israel for its "numerous and continued violations of international norms and principles."

Moments after President Muizzu's X post, the Foreign Ministry also issued a statement condemning the attack, almost quoting the president word for word.

Israeli forces targeted Palestinian Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar.

Israel said the attack was on Hamas members who had been at the forefront of the group’s activities for years, and that it would continue to defeat Hamas.

The attack comes days after Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir threatened to assassinate Hamas leaders living abroad. It also came hours after Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Israel had accepted a ceasefire offer from the United States.

Al-Jazeera quoted some Hamas officials as saying that Israel targeted Hamas officials who were on their way to discuss US ceasefire proposals.

However, Israel attacked a residential area, Al Jazeera reported.

Maldives, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on Qatar.
