Trio sentenced to one year in prison for stripping and robbing man at knifepoint

The Criminal Court on Saturday sentenced three people to one year and three months in prison for stripping a man naked at knifepoint and then beating and robbing him.

The incident took place at Masfan, a house located in the Machangolhi district of Male’ City, on July 24.

Three people were charged in the case. They are:

• Shafeeq Ibrahim, 35, Soma, S. Hithadhoo
• Mohamed Rehan, 27, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’
• Aishath, 43, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’

The trio were accused of luring the victim into the house, after which they snatched his mobile phone, forced him to transfer MVR 20,000 from his bank account, and used his bank card to withdraw another MVR 25,000 from an ATM.

They were charged with robbery, inflicting physical harm and unlawful procurement of information.

All three pled guilty to the charges, and were sentenced to one year and three months in prison.

The time they already spent in detention was considered as time served and deducted from their sentence. Therefore, Aishath has 10 months and six days left in her sentence, Rehan has 10 months and five days left, and Shafeeq has one year, one month and 12 days left to serve.
