Abdul Raheem’s warning to Yameen: Don’t attempt to throw stones at a beehive

PNC’s Chairperson, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdul Raheem has warned former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom against attempting to throw stones at a beehive.

Abdul Raheem strongly refuted remarks made by Yameen at recent events during a PNC event held on Tuesday night.

Yameen had accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of being too much of a “coward” to probe corruption cases, adding Abdul Raheem’s cases would be the first investigated if the President had the courage. In response, Abdul Raheem called on President Muizzu to form an independent committee which includes Yameen to investigate his cases.

“Please, go ahead and establish [a committee] and task it with investigating my cases. The committee’s chair should be President Yameen. Deputies should be Dr. [Mohamed] Jameel, [Mohamed] Maleeh. Members should be Hussain Waheed and [Colonel (Retired) Ahmed Fayaz] Papa. I am ready to respond,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said an additional committee should also be established, which should be chaired by him.

“The members would be who I appoint. Then I will probe the MMPRC case. Will know what will happen if this is probed,” he added.

Abdul Raheem also questioned how there was over MVR 500 million in Yameen’s accounts when he concluded his term while he did not have even MVR 100,000 in any of his personal accounts when he became the president in 2013.

“Hence, I have said even the previous night, do not attempt to throw stones at a beehive,” he stressed.

Speaking further, Abdul Raheem said he respects Yameen, however, is saddened that the former president has still not learned people.

He added that Yameen left President Muizzu’s side, because he was unable to watch an individual other than him assume become the president.

“What I am trying to say is, President Yameen did not leave us because we were doing some wrongs,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said President Muizzu’s administration will conclude after bringing twice as much development to the Maldives than Yameen’s administration had achieved.
