Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has appealed for global parliamentary solidarity and swift multilateral action over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, emphasizing that silence and inaction are not options when lives are at risk.
He made the appeal while addressing the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva, under the theme ‘A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All’.
In his remarks, Speaker Abdul Raheem reaffirmed the Maldives’ steadfast commitment to international cooperation, multilateralism, and parliamentary diplomacy.
He also drew attention to the pressing global challenges of today — including the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, climate change, and rising inequalities — stressing that small nations like the Maldives are often the earliest to experience their effects. He also underscored the need for a rules-based international system, justice for all, and unified efforts to attain sustainable peace and prosperity.
