According to the President's Office, the investigative report on Special Operations (SO) officers' deployment to stop People's National Congress (PNF)'s inaugural congress has been handed over to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The office confirmed to 'Sun' necessary action would be taken against those responsible after thorough assessment of the report.
Earlier, President Dr. Muizzu had expressed displeasure over SO officers' involvement in intervening PNF's inaugural congress, set initially at Ghiyasuddin International School on Tuesday evening. He promised to take necessary action on the matter as well.
Speaking to reporters after the exchange of Eid greetings at Mulee'aage on Wednesday morning, President Muizzu said he does not condone the course of action, and added the SO Police were deployed on Tuesday evening despite his explicit instructions against it.
President Muizzu stressed that the creation of political parties and freedom of political expression are fundamental rights, and that he will not infringe on it.
PNF held its inaugural congress at Raalhugandu area, after it failed to hold the event at the initial venue, where the party elected Zane Abdulla Yameen, the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's son, as the party's interim leader. The party also appointed an interim senate, and approved its logo and color as well.
Yameen had visited the Raalhugandu area after the congress ended to meet his supporters.
