President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says his administration is working on increasing the number of specialist doctors, and improving the healthcare system of the Maldives.
On the Q&A platform ‘Raeesge Javaab’, Adam Abdulla, a resident of L. Maabaidhoo, appealed to the president to resolve the existing difficulties in accessing quality medical care services in the country.
He expressed concern over a number of difficulties, including the long waitlist for appointments, and the high cost of medical treatments.
President Muizzu responded that strengthening the national healthcare system is one his administration’s key policies.
He said the health authorities are working on increasing the number of specialist doctors in the country.
“One of the things we are doing is to employee as many specialist doctors in Maldives’ hospitals as possible. We have also begun to recruit doctors from overseas with specialties in areas that are currently lacking in the Maldives,” he said.
He added that the administration is also working on shaping the system to avoid appointment cancellations, and to ensure doctors spend as much time on duty as possible.
He said the changes will be implemented nationwide.
