President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states that simultaneously implementing all projects is not feasible in light of the current economic state of the Maldives.

As part of his ongoing tour of Thaa Atoll, President Muizzu, on Monday, visited Dhiyamigili, as his second stop.

Addressing the residents of the island, President Muizzu said his priority is to undertake all possible efforts to develop the Maldives.

However, he stressed that the Maldivian economy was in a delicate state when the current administration took over from its predecessor.

In this trajectory, he cited the current economic state as the biggest obstruction at present when considering resuming the projects across islands that have been halted and ensuring their timely implementation.

Nevertheless, he affirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving the prevailing issues in order to increase the speed of the projects.

“That is why there are difficulties in simultaneously carrying out PSIP projects or developmental projects. I am someone who strongly desires the implementation of such development projects. But this is the reason behind the inability to simultaneously resume all projects halted across islands or even commence new projects,” he said.

President Muizzu said development projects can be implemented in the islands as the economic state improves. He cited the necessary steps to overcome the economic difficulties presently faced as the priority at the moment.

“I will not be negligent towards any pledges I have made,” he added.

The president said the goal was to resume projects once calm is achieved with respect to the economic state. He added that he was speaking to the public realistically, instead of construing the reality.

“For example, I can come here and say that all the projects will be commenced immediately, but, I will not do that,” he added.

President Muizzu also spoke regarding the economic state while addressing the residents during his visit to Guraidhoo earlier in the day during which he pledged against any wrongdoing in the name of implementation of projects in conjunction with the election season.
