President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Thursday, has constituted the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research under the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
The new institution was established under the discretion vested in him by Article 116 of the Maldivian constitution as per an announcement made in the President's Office Directive 02/2024.
National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research is founded to revive and instill knowledge of the Dhivehi language, history, culture, heritage, legacy, traditions, and patriotism within its mandate. It is also aimed at fostering a sense of patriotism and a general knowledge and comprehension of nationalism among the populace.
National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research conducts activities encompassing a variety of tasks, including revitalizing a sense of patriotism and spirit of service, translating articles about the country from various languages into the local dialect, translating traditional materials about the Maldives and its indigenous population into Dhivehi.
President Muizzu’s administration allocates a priority to reviving nationalism and in this trajectory, has decided to introduce nationalism as a separate subject in the national school syllabus.
