Criminal Court has remanded a couple accused of trafficking drugs into the Maldives and carrying out the sale of drugs in custody for 15 days.

As per the remand order, six packets of drugs were discovered in a luggage belonging to the couple – a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The drugs, weighing 994 grams, had tested positive for racemate. The man’s urine also tested positive for COC, THC and Benzo.

At the remand hearing, the woman claimed she was unaware there were drugs in her luggage and that she had no connection to it. However, USD 1,751 was discovered in the woman’s handbag as per the remand order.

The couple is suspected of attempting to use a special tactic to traffic drugs into the Maldives.
