President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says that municipal services of suburban Hulhumale’ will be transferred to the Male’ City Council.
In a post on X, President Muizzu said the decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
He said the process will start on Monday, and that the transfer of office, machineries, equipment, municipal land, staff and other resources will be completed within one month.
He added that all staff will continue to receive the same remuneration as they are currently receiving for one year.
Currently, Urbanco is mandated to provide the majority of municipal services offered in phases one and two of Hulhumale’.
President Muizzu had expressed concern over this back when he served as Male’ City Mayor.
The transfer of all municipal services to the city council had been one of his electoral pledges – something which he promised to deliver on within the first 100 days in office.
