A motorbike owned by Mohamed Rashad, the chief magistrate at the R. Inguraidhoo Court, has been burned down in an arson attack.
A police spokesperson said the motorbike was torched at around 02:30 am on Friday.
The bike was damaged beyond repair in the incident.
In a statement on Friday night, the Judges’ Association condemned the attack, and asked the police for a swift investigation.
The association urged the police to find everyone responsible and take all necessary legal action against them.
In the statement, the Judges’ Association stressed that judges and magistrates are entitled to safety and protection by law, and urged the police to provide Rashad with security.
The case is under investigation by the police.
However, the police have yet to make an arrest in the case.
