Home Minister Imran Abdulla told the Parliament on Tuesday that construction of a police station in R. Inguraidhoo will begin as soon as the loan agreement is signed.
Imran was questioned by Inguraidhoo MP Hassan Ahmed regarding when construction of the Inguraidhoo Police Station was expected to begin and conclude.
Imran’s written response to the question was read at the Parliament on Tuesday.
Imran said the project was part of a greater project to build police stations across Maldives set to be financed through a loan from the Exim Bank of India.
He said the Finance Ministry was doing necessary work on the loan agreement.
Imran said construction work would begin as soon as the loan agreement is signed.
Maldives and India had signed six agreements during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s visit to India earlier August, including an agreement between Maldivian Finance Ministry and the Exim Bank of India on developing police infrastructure in Maldives.
According to Maldivian government, 61 facilities will be developed under the project, including police stations in islands and atolls, divisional headquarters, police posts, and detention facilities.
The project is valued at USD 41 million, and will be run under a buyer’s credit scheme.
