Pres Muizzu announces portal that will open direct line for complaints, opinions

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to launch a portal on the President’s Office website – opening a direct line to share complaints and opinions on various matters with him.

He made the announcement during the ceremony held by the Local Government Authority (LGA) to give away the Kangathi Awards 2023 on Wednesday night.

“I will set up a portal on the President’s Office website via which all Maldivian citizens can question me, and share their worries, opinions and aspirations directly with me,” he said.

President Muizzu noted that he had set up a similar portal on the Male’ City Council website during his time as the Male’ City Mayor, and said he wished continue it as president.

He said that the portal is currently in the works.

“I want to establish a transparent government in the truest sense of the word,” he said.

“I will work by listening to the people. I will work closely with the people. I will meet the people frequently, and ask after their wellbeing.”

At the ceremony, Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar reiterated President Muizzu’s administration’s commitment to enhancing the decentralization system.

He said that the past failure to empower local councils and listen to their concerns had rendered councils unable to resolve the issues facing local communities.

“From my visits to the atolls and from my meetings with councils, I learnt the poor state of the infrastructure of councils, and that past administrations failed to resolve this,” he said.

Adam Shareef said that President Muizzu will resolve all such issues.
