President Muizzu calls for increased cooperation to develop a more resilient South Asia

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday, has called for increased cooperation in developing a more interconnected and resilient South Asia.

He made the appeal in a message to the Secretary-General, the Secretariat, and all institutions affiliated with the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the people of the South Asian region on the occasion of the 39th SAARC Charter Day.

In his message, President Muizzu stressed the importance of reflecting on the principles and values of regional cooperation, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia. He also noted that the SAARC has been crucial in addressing regional challenges and advancing shared goals.

Henceforth, he  called upon renewed commitment to the principles of the Charter and increased cooperation in developing a more interconnected and resilient South Asia.

The SAARC Charter Day is celebrated every year on December 8, to mark the signing of the SAARC Charter in 1985 by the Leaders of SAARC Countries at the First SAARC Summit held in Dhaka.

The SAARC nations include Maldives, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bhutan.
