Speaker Aslam guarantees cooperation from parliament to Muizzu’s govt.

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam has provided guarantee that the parliament will provide all cooperation necessary for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.

Speaking the inauguration ceremony of President Muizzu and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Aslam appealed to President Muizzu, to work alongside the powers of the state in fulfilling the needs of the Maldivian people.

“This a historical day for the Maldives. That is as the powers of a five-year administration that rid (the country) of instability and established peace are being transferred smoothly to another without any conflict,” he said.

“It marks as a strong testament of a developing democracy,” he added.

Aslam, describing change of administration following the expiration of the term of another administration as part of the democratic system, stressed what need not be changed as the exemplary features of democracy and the responsibilities of the powers of the state for the benefit of its people. He added that the parliament will provide full cooperation to accomplish this.

“Will receive full cooperation from the parliament for matters which the government intends to submit to the parliament to proceed within the parliament in accordance with the constitution and the parliament’s regulations,” he said.

Aslam noted that important days were ahead at the parliament, as the third session for the year stands to conclude soon while important bills, motions and matters remain pending. In this trajectory, he assured that the parliament will pass the state budget proposed for the coming year at the earliest.

President Muizzu and Vice President Latheef took oath during a special ceremony held at the Republic Square on Friday evening which saw the attendance of over 3,500 people including foreign delegations from over 46 countries.

The ceremony was attended by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of the outgoing administration and members of parliament in addition to senior officials from the former administration and the new administration.
