Aslam appointed to JSC

The Parliament’s new Speaker Mohamed Aslam has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Aslam was elected to as Speaker on Monday night, within hours after former Speaker Mohamed Nasheed tendered his resignation.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented Aslam with the letter of appointment as a member of JSC in a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Wednesday.

His oath was administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.

Aslam who had been President Solih’s running mate in the September presidential election, had been serving as the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group leader, prior to getting elected as the Speaker.

He was originally elected to the Parliament in 2005.
