Director General of Transition, People National Congress (PNC)’s chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey), on Thursday, has claimed having received information of a scheme to shift some political appointees in the current administration to civil service posts, as they will lose their jobs when the new administration comes to power.

Speaking at a press conference held at Dhimyath, the residence of the president-elect, Adhurey said the plan was to appoint some of the political appointees in the current administration to civil service posts, at the same salary they currently receive.

He called on the president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) against making such appointments.

“Individuals who are presently in political posts in the current administration are individuals who support their political ideologies. People incoming to the government do not share these ideologies,” he said.

“It should absolutely not be done; scheming to allow individuals presently holding political posts to remain in the next administration by creating new posts within the civil service, before the current administration is relieved,” he stressed.

Adhurey’s remarks come at a time when the president-elect has requested the current administration to refrain from creating new posts within the government.

A letter from president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to President Solih on October 5th requested the current administration to halt seven matters during the period of transition.

President Solih has expressed the intention to cooperate with respect to the requests put forth by Muizzu. However, President Solih has sought parliament’s approval to appoint new ambassadors to foreign countries.
