Polling in the presidential election runoff was suspended in L. Fonadhoo on Saturday morning, after an electoral official at the polling station in the island was accused of marking ballot papers.
Elections Commission (EC)’s secretary-general Hassan Zakariyya said polling was suspended in Fonadhoo following a complaint of ink stains in ballot papers.
He said polling will resume as soon as the situation is rectified.
A police spokesperson said the case had been reported to the police, and that they are looking into it.
Videos of social media show the incident resulted in people gathering at the polling station and express displeasure at electoral officials.
