A strong windstorm hit L. Fonadhoo at dawn this Saturday leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Maldives Police Service reports the windstorm hit Fonadhoo at approximately 4:20 am.
Though the windstorm did not result in any injuries to any person, it swept away the roofs of nine residential properties, uprooted trees – some of which collapsed on top of roofs, damaged two speedboats docked at the island’s lagoon, damaged vehicles and resulted in the collapse of a wall at a residential property.
Damages have also been reported from the Barru pre-school, located at the Baraaseelu district of Fonadhoo.
Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defense Force and locals have joined forces to assist the families affected by the windstorm.
