Opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s campaign spokesperson, Mohamed Tholal, on Monday, has cited one of the first tasks Muizzu will undertake upon assuming office as disclosure of all agreements executed between Maldives and foreign nations.
Speaking at a press conference held at PPM headquarters on Monday, Tholal said the public will be privy to all agreements in an administration of Muizzu.
“Among the first tasks Dr. Muizzu will undertake after assuming office will be researching the agreements and the disclosure of the agreements to the public,” he said.
Tholal said each agreement will be disclosed to the extent allowed by law, while authorities that need to be notified under the law with respect to the agreements, will be notified.
“Will disclose all agreements. Legally, there are authorities that need to know about them. For example, the parliament needs to know, but they were not notified. The law mandates that the parliament needs to be notified if executing such an agreement. We complain because this much had not even been done,” he said.
Tholal here is likely referring to the agreement between the Maldivian and Indian military to develop the Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) and the letter President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had sent to the Mauritian prime minister with respect to the Chagos dispute.
The spokesperson said in the administration of Muizzu, all undertakings of the government will be disclosed to the public, to the extent allowed by law, contrary to the current administration.
“It has been included among the list of things he will undertake after first assuming office,” he stressed.
