Row breaks out in Rasdhoo after two poll workers suspended

Row breaks out at a polling station in AA. Rasdhoo during the 2023 presidential election on September 9, 2023.

A row broke out at the polling station in AA. Rasdhoo on Saturday, after two of the Elections Commission (EC)’s officials stationed there were suspended.

Rasdhoo Council’s president Mohamed Nahid said the disturbance there has now ended, but polling remains suspended.

However, EC’s secretary-general Ismail Zakariyya told Sun that polling wasn’t suspended despite the disturbance.

Zakariyya said the two officials were suspended following an investigation into a complaint that they took part in campaign activities.

The complaint proved true, he said.

Rasdhoo Council’s president said the people who gathered at the polling station belonged to the opposition PPM-PNC coalition.

The two officials were found to have taken part in a campaign event organized by the coalition.
