A young man who, along with his wife, sustained severe burns in a fire at the couple’s home in AA. Rasdhoo in March was flown to neighboring India on Monday for further treatment.

The fire was reported to the police at around 11:15 pm on March 24. The married couple – a man and woman both 31 years of age – sustained severe burn injuries in the incident and were immediately transferred to Male’ City, where were put on ventilators at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The woman succumbed to her injuries and died on March 31.

A spokesperson from the IGMH told Sun that the man has been taken off the ventilator on Sunday, and then discharged the next day at the request of his family, who wished to have him taken to India.

He was being treated at the ICU up until his discharge.

IGMH had brought in a specialist in burns and plastic surgery from the Bombay Hospital in India last month to treat the couple.

A resident from Rasdhoo told Sun earlier that the young couple lived in the house with their five-year-old child – who was unharmed in the incident.

According to the local, the fire originated from one of the rooms in the couple’s home, and caused burns to almost all of their body.

The fire is under investigation by the police.
