Man hit by motorcyclist without license in critical condition

Maldives National University’s (MNU) Faculty of Tourism and Hospital Studies (FHTS) Ali Hafeez who was injured in an accident.

The pedestrian who was hit by the motorcyclist who was driving without a license hit a pedestrian in a dangerous accident on early Wednesday morning in Male’ City is reportedly in critical condition.

Police said the accident took place at approximately 5:00am on Wednesday morning near Redwave in Majeedhee Magu in which a 22-year-old motorcyclist driving without a license hit a pedestrian, a 50-year-old Maldivian man.

The pedestrian has been identified as a lecturer at Maldives National University’s (MNU) Faculty of Tourism and Hospital Studies (FHTS) Ali Hafeez.

He was hit by the motorcycle as he left the Sultan Adil Mosque located in front of Heenaamaage Parking Zone after Fajr prayers.

A co-worker of Hazeef confirmed to Sun on Thursday that he remains in critical condition. The co-worker, detailing Hafeez sustained unexpectedly serious injuries in the accident, detailed the biggest health concern at present as surgery being delayed as his internal bleeding has not been controlled.

The co-worker, citing doctors, also reported that the bones in Hafeez’s right leg and cheeks have been shattered while he also sustained injuries to the head.

Sun has been unsuccessful in efforts to get a comment on the case from ADK Hospital, where Hafeez is being treated. He is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

A witness who saw the incident reported that Hafeez as hit by the motorcycle as he crossed the road from the zebra cross. The motorcycle, which was being driven at high speed at that time, could not be controlled, which led to the collision. Hafeez was thrown to a distance on impact.
