Urbanco has warned the public over scam calls made in the company’s name claiming the receiver to be a recipient of land under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme.
The company made the announcement following an increased number of scam calls in their name following the publicization of the list of recipients of land under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme.
Urbanco stressed that the company will not carry out any communication regarding the list of recipients of land or flats. They also reminded the public that they will not send any text messages with payment links.
Fraud and extortion carried out through such scam calls and texts have been on the rise in the Maldives with many criminals impersonating government agencies, offices, companies and businesses. The public has been urged to remain vigilant against such calls and texts by the relevant authorities.
The government publicized the preliminary list of recipients of land under its ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme on Monday.
15,164 applications were submitted for land under the ‘Binveriya’ Housing scheme. That is, 23,801 people. Of these, 12,794 forms or 19,857 people are eligible. The government has decided to give land to all those who meet the requirements.
