Highway hit-and-run suspect arrested

The youth who is accused of leaving the scene after an accident on Sinamale’ Bridge highway has been arrested by the Police on Friday.

The suspect has been identified as Shunaan Mohamed Shakir, 22, Fasmeeru, B. Eydhafushi.

Criminal Court has remanded him in police custody for five days in connection to the hit-and-run.

As per the Police, an accident involving a speeding motorbike that crashed into another motorbike while attempting to overtake illegally was reported to the authority at approximately 14:43pm on Friday evening. Shunaan, who was driving speeding motorbike, left the scene without waiting after the crash.

The two people on the second motorbike sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to Hulhumale’ Hospital for treatment. They were identified as a Maldivian man and a woman.

Police states the man has been discharged after receiving care while the woman still remains at the hospital for treatment.
