Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a probe into allegations against the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) concerning the procurement of an office building for the Agency.
ACC confirmed to Sun that an investigation was underway, however, did not disclose any further details.
The allegations on social media regarding the procurement of an office building for NSPA claimed that an MVR 34.8 million transaction concerning the procurement of an office building for the Agency was conducted with an individual other than the owner of the building. In this trajectory, it is alleged that an office building rented by MMTV for their operations was sub-leased to NSPA.
NSPA released a statement denying the allegations on Friday night in which they cited that the transaction was conducted between the Finance Ministry and the Agency in line with regulations. In this regard, the Agency stressed that there was no involvement of another party in the matter.
The Agency also stressed that the information was accessible to the public in a widely transparent manner.
NSPA strongly condemned efforts to plot doubts among the public regarding the integrity of an entity responsible for ensuring the social welfare of the people.
The statement further read that NSPA has filed a complaint with ACC to investigate the allegations, uncover the truth behind it via an independent investigation and subsequently take action.
A letter signed by NSPA’s President Heena Waleed sent to ACC’s President Adam Shamil requested an investigation into the allegations and subsequently, share the Commission’s findings at the earliest.
