People will be able to visit the picnic island Kudagiri free of charge on weekends and public holidays, according to Vice President Faisal Naseem.

He made the announcement during a visit to Kudagiri on Wednesday to check the latest updates before the island opens to public.

While people can visit the island for free on weekends and public holidays, a two-day ticket to the island on weekdays costs MVR 50. People will also be charged an MVR 50 entrance fee.

The prices are half off for children under the age of 12.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is developing Kudagiri with various facilities picnic goers will need, including huts, washrooms and sports centers.

The island also has a mosque built by Fenaka Corporation, and has a fire safety plan and disaster management plan prepared in collaboration with the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

Kudagiri was developed to fulfill President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge of developing a picnic island for residents of the populous greater Male’ area.
