Police to hold annual research and innovation conference

Maldives Police Services announced the decision to hold a special annual conference under the name “Police Research and Innovation Conference”. 

The purpose of this is to further strengthen policing, and to bring the work done by police to the public in an academic form. 

During a joint meeting with the press held on Tuesday by Police, Ministry of Home Affairs and Police Board, Home Minister Imran Abdulla noted that this conference will be seeking public opinions. 

“This conference will gather papers from law enforcement bodies, universities, colleges, ngos and public individuals. These will be discussed and work towards bettering police work.”

Also speaking during the press conference, the Chair of Police Board Ahmed Faseeh said that better results will be obtained only when those in law enforcement and academics are brought together to one table.

In addition to this, the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed spoke of the significance of academy in improving policing. He added that it would be an added factor to enhancing the institution. 

Moreover, he noted that as the institution is widely accountable to the public , it was also necessary for them to be aware of the results of the work done by police. 

This years conference is to be held from March 18th to 20th. A wide range of topics has been included for this year, and papers can be submitted from now onwards.

The topics include:

  • Crime Prevention 
  • National Security and Counter Terrorism
  • Financial Crime and Anti-money laundering 
  • Cyber Crime
  • Forensics 
  • Leadership 
  • Organization Resilience and Officers Wellbeing 
  • Innovation and Technology 
  • Transport and Maritime Security 
  • Efficiency and Effectiveness 
  • Road Safety

On the first day of the conference, papers will be presented, and discussions will be held on it. Day two will cover how to prevent individual from committing crimes. 

The third and final day will be an expo where equipment used in security services will be displayed.
