Maldives Customs Service has announced the seizure of a type of drug that has never been seized in the Maldives previously.

The drug smuggled to Maldives through courier has been identified as Methorphan.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Customs said that the drugs were discovered during a search of a parcel brought to the Maldives from Bahrain following suspicions.

They detailed the drugs tested positive for Methorphan during the first phase of testing, marking the first time this type of drug has been seized in the Maldives.

Customs said that the seized drugs weighed 604.50 grams – which have now been handed over to the police.

In September, Customs seized MVR 2.5 million worth drugs smuggled to the Maldives via post. The seized drugs tested positive for Mephedrone during the first phase of testing.
