Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has publicized the names of 140 taxpayers who defaulted on their tax payments and 256 taxpayers who failed to file their tax statements.

The names of non-filers and non-payers of GST, Green Tax and Withholding Tax for the taxable periods due as of December 31, 2021, were published on MIRA’s website on Sunday.

MIRA’s spokesperson Ahmed Shareef told Sun that the names of the taxpayers were publicized in accordance with the policy on disclosure of names of non-filers and non-payers of tax.

Under MIRA’s policy, non-payers will be fined at the rate of MVR 0.05 per day.

MIRA said the names will be removed from the list once they pay their tax.

MIRA urged all taxpayers to pay their taxes or come to an agreement on a tax payment plan with the authority.

In a statement in March, MIRA said it had commenced enforcement actions to recover billions in accumulated dues owed to the state.

According to MIRA, the accumulated dues owed to the state as of 2021’s end stands at MVR 16 billion.

Information regarding tax payments and MIRA’s policies are available on the authority’s website.
