The iron rod that impaled a migrant construction worker last week has been removed after a hours-long surgery, according to ADK Hospital.
The incident took place at a construction site in Henveiru district of Male’ City on Thursday, September 15.
Workers were lifting a pile of iron rods into an upper floor of the construction site when one dropped, and impaled one of the workers.
The rod entered the man's body through his nose.
ADK Hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Afaal told Sun the rod measures approximately three feet.
It was removed in an eight-hour long surgery led by a team of doctors from the hospital, said Afaal.
Afaal said the worker needed close monitoring and remained admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
