Dinghy carrying 17 foreigners capsized en route to Guraidhoo

A dinghy transporting 17 foreign individuals overturned near Zamani Island, while journeying to Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll on Wednesday evening.

Authorities stated that 17 foreign nationals were aboard the dinghy. Following the capsizing, three individuals managed to swim to Zamani Island, according to police reports.

All passengers were successfully rescued through the collaborative efforts of the Marine Police, Kaafu Atoll Police, and speedboats deployed from resorts within the atoll.

Zamani Island is a reclaimed island designated for resort development within the Tholimaraahuraa Lagoon in Kaafu Atoll.

Current weather conditions are adverse, and the MNDF has previously issued advisories urging caution for sea navigation. The MNDF has recommended that folk consult warnings disseminated by the national meteorological office prior to undertaking sea travel.
