On Sunday evening, an accident in Addu City resulted in injuries to a woman and two boys under the age of 18.
In a message shared with the media, the police said that the accident was reported at 2117 hours when two motorcycles collided on Heena Magu in Addu City, Hithadhoo.
One of the motorcycles involved in the accident was driven by a woman while the other was driven by a 15-year-old boy, with another 16-year-old in the back.
The woman and two boys were injured in the incident and are being treated at the Addu Equatorial Hospital, police said.
The condition of the woman and her two children is yet to be ascertained from Addu Equatorial Hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
It is noteworthy that the number of accidents caused by children under the age of 18 riding motorcycles without a license has increased recently.
On August 6, a 17-year-old boy died after crashing into a wall while riding a motorcycle in Fuvahmulah City. On July 13, a 17-year old boy was killed when he was riding a motorcycle in the city. In the same incident, a 16-year-old boy was riding pillion on the motocycle and was injured.
According to police statistics, 2,885 accidents occurred last year while 1,725 accidents have occurred so far this year.
