Police have yet to arrest a suspect in connection to the break-in and theft of MVR 25 from Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) headquarters in the Maldivian capital.
A police spokesperson confirmed to Sun they have yet to make an arrest in connection to the case.
Commissioner General of Taxation Fathuhulla Jameel told Sun in an earlier interview that the thief had broken into MIRA on Monday after tampering with a window.
Fathuhulla said the only thing that appeared to have been stolen was MVR 25 in cash kept in the desk drawer of an employee.
“No document or even laptop was stolen. Just the MVR 25,” he said.
Fathuhulla said MIRA managed tax collections responsibly, making it a difficult task for thieves to steal any money, even if they managed to break into the office.
He said the thief was caught on CCTV camera.
